Course Details
Equip yourself with an advanced understanding of the complex laws and principles that arise from working in international human rights, as you prepare for a wide-ranging career in this demanding field.
You will explore the issues of international human rights, including political, economic, social, legal, ethical and environmental challenges. As you develop your knowledge, you will evaluate and apply theories to a range of complex and open-ended problems and scenarios such as whose rights should be protected, by whom and with what mechanisms, while staying mindful of ethical issues.
This course will enable you to tailor your learning to suit your career requirements or personal interests - you could choose to study criminal investigations, torture, non-violent methods during conflict or new security threats to human rights.
You will also enhance your skills in data analysis, budgeting, presentation and interpretation, which will be valuable whether you wish to pursue a career in academic research or international human rights organisations.
Course Benefits
Whether you want to enrich your politics degree or you require a conversion course to break into this challenging and rapidly-shifting area, this course will help you to progress.
You will gain the skills and practical expertise required by employers working in human rights, such as the ability to write funding bids, interpersonal communication, and research and problem-solving capabilities.
Your course team includes highly experienced and research-active tutors who are well regarded in the fields of human rights law and practice, security, peace studies, evidence gathering and crime investigation.
Our guest lecture series provides access to industry experts who help ensure your learning is informed by the very latest developments in human rights practice. You could also be part of our annual Festival of Politics and Global Ethics, a week-long event that brings together specialists in politics and international relations to debate controversial issues such as the Syrian refugee crisis and unarmed civilian peacekeeping.
